Welcome to the virtual tour of our art show “Baby Canvases: Less Is More”! The show ran from July 18th to August 23rd, 2009.
The concept for this show was conceived when we observed the artists in our studio working on thumbnail sketches for paintings and projects. Some were incredibly detailed works of art in their own right, and others were quick sketches and outlines that presented a different approach to ideas the artist was formulating. Working on a small scale presents a completely different set of challenges and perspectives, and we wanted to engage our artists by challenging them to a work in a small format.
All of the artwork in the show was done on canvases that measure 2 inches by 3 inches. The artists in the show boldly took on the challenge of this small format. They really dug in and produced inventive, imaginative works of varied styles and interpretations. The result was a strong, progressive, and compelling show that got incredible reception from the public as well as the artist community here at The Soundry. At the opening reception, it was outstanding to observe the way the public received the tiny artwork. The small scale made the art incredibly approachable and unintimidating, and at very affordable prices, we sold one third of the art in the show at the opening reception! It was exciting and refreshing to see so many people excited about purchasing art. That’s one reason The Soundry exists, to bring art to THE PEOPLE. So thank you for making this art show such a great success!! And now, for The Virtual Tour!
