Call for Entries!

Dreams are a common link to our subconscious desires, fears and can even act as a source of inspiration. In this art show, we are looking for artwork that represents a dream-like state of mind. Work that captures that surreal environment we all encounter when we close our eyes.

This show is co-produced by The Soundry and Epicure Cafe. Epicure Cafe is a community cafe that supports local art and music.

Submission fee is $25 if accepted into the show. Please complete the SUBMISSION FORM for more information about being in the show.

“Cell Block 316″ is an experiment; a Lockdown and an art show.

Here’s the gist:

The Lockdown: Begins Friday June 17th, 2011 at 6pm when artists, musicians, writers, poets, actors and comics will be voluntarily “locked” in The Soundry for 24 hours–until 6pm, Saturday June 18th.  Artists will work restlessly and relentlessly for a frantic 24 hour burst of creativity to produce the material that will presented on the walls and stage at the opening reception.

Art Show: The opening reception for “Cell Block 316″ will be on Saturday June 18th at 8pm–that’s right, 2 hours after The Lockdown ends!  Take a break for a shower and a meal, and come right back to see the results of The Lockdown and strut your stuff.

There is no telling what this event will produce–surely some good company and red eyes, but beyond that it is up to the creative prisoners!

Show Opening and Albus Cavus Fundraiser

Please join us at the Soundry the night of Thursday, May 13 when Matthew Riegner will be showing off some of his mad skill and new artwork. Matts’ work is a fresh twist of urban street culture and gallery art. His inspiration is drawn from his experience with graffiti and love for old school hip-hop, funk, and electronic culture. Several pieces of related work by other artists will be donated towards a silent auction. You could score some new original pieces for your wall and support a good cause! In collaboration with Albus Cavus (http://albuscav.us/classrooms/), 40% of the proceeds will be going towards helping to fund creativity-based programs in the DC/metro area.

The show will be on the walls until June 10 so feel free to stop by anytime after the reception.

I smell an Art Show!

“Salon de Toilette” is a juried art show that has transformed the beautiful restrooms at The Soundry into mini art galleries.

The Soundry’s lifetime member-artist Matt Somma juried this mini-show that is sure to provide every piece of artwork a captive audience.

THE CELEBRATION OF SOUNDRY MEMBERS’ TALENTS

We couldn’t be more excited to “officially” embark on our 3rd year with the opening of the 3rd Annual Member’s Only Art Show, “The Chase III”!

“The Chase” showcases work from our Members–artists who create their work in our studio.  “The Chase” represents the drive and exploration every artist undertakes to persevere toward their dream.  It is the insatiable desire to expel the energy that seethes from the innermost depths of an artist that spurns them to pursue the illusive and often unattainable.  Like that hypnotic carrot dangling just beyond their reach, they pursue their most sacred dreams with the fervor of a hunter, thinking all the while if they could just run faster, reach further, then, surely someday the prize would be theirs.  The focus, dedication, discipline, inquiry, exploration, creation, contemplation, successes, and failures we experience are represented in the art we make, and are summed in “The Chase”.

Over 60 new pieces of art generated from our talented group of Soundry Studio Members will be on display until the end of March.

Please come to the opening reception, held in conjunction with Art Carnage!  It will be a packed night with a full line-up of entertainment and Northern Virginia’s most bustling craft market (we’ve heard it called “a craft fair on crack”).  Come out and meet the artists at a special Pre-Show Preview beginning at 7pm!
