QUIET PARTY

Verbal Assault has been sentenced to “Silentary Confinement”! What are we to do?!? Well, we are going to have a QUIET PARTY of course. Use movement,  body language, facial expressions, chalk, paper and the GIANT Whiteboard to express yourself and a party we will have. Once you cross the threshold of silence, not a sound you will make, but you will be heard. Most creatively communicative will be awarded an awesome prize.

Jasper Hyjinx hails from the sunny shores of California, where she was endowed with a cheeky smile and a sparkling wit. After finding herself stranded on the Eastern shore, she shimmied her way into the loving arms of the DC Gurly Show. Since 2008, she has been wowing crowds in a cloud of glitter. Known for her classic style and quirky humor, she can often be seen prancing across the Phase 1 stage and occasionally gracing the Palace of Wonders.

Never heard of Dr. Sketchy? Learn more about this twist on traditional life drawing sessions started in NYC  by Molly CrabApple.

Dr. Sketchy’s DC sessions are 3 hours and are $15. (Soundry members pay $10) Art monkeys should bring sketch pads, pens, pencils, markers, pastels, etc and be prepared for a sketchy good time. Models do a series of short and long poses with breaks every 20 minutes. Fun contests and prizes too!

Our models are hard working pencil candy, so don’t forget to visit the “Love the Models” tip jar.

Imagine all the people…dreaming of a Beatles Jam! Join us for our first monthly Beatles acoustic jam led by Tim Gregory on the ukulele.

* Play songs from The Beatles Complete Chord Songbook, a pretty common Beatles fake-book (you can even buy copies at Target for like $16.) We will also have song copies to hand out to those without a book.
* Play each song twice; once through to get the chords down, and once more with feeling.
* All skill levels and instruments welcome
* The emphasis is on fun, not accuracy.

In preparation for June 18th’s “Act Up People!”, the one act play competition at Verbal Assault, we are holding group writing sessions for people interested in writing and producing their own one act plays.

Players can pair up, work in small groups or solo to come up with a one act play worthy of a Tony!

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: This is DIY-style. We are working  from scratch and figuring it out as we go along because that’s how we do it.

FIRST MONDAYS 7-10

The live jury process for “F*ck the Machine” garnished such wonderful reviews from artists and art enthusiasts who attended and watched the process streaming live on Ustream.com, that we have decided to hold this event once a month.  (Watch how the jury went down here.) “Kiss My Arts” is a critique-style forum for artists to present their work to other artist and have honesty, frank, and thoughtful discussions about the work and how it is perceived.  Every first Monday from 7-10pm, artists are invited to bring one piece to present to an audience of other artists and art supporters.  All in attendance are encouraged to voice their opinions about the work.

Artists will present in an “open mic” style stage setting and “Kiss My Arts” will be streamed live on the internet every month.  Artists are encouraged to sign up before hand to present.  Bring your swagger, attitude, and confidence, cause you’re gonna need it!

Join us on June 11th & 25th as our models pose amidst poets, improv acts. comics, story tellers and other performance artists. Bring your sketch books, pencils, pens and markers for a drawing session like no other. Contests, prizes and models to be announced soon! $15  per session $10 for Soundry members

SATURDAYS 11AM-1PM!!

All levels of experience are welcome to join us for two hours of improv practice, exercises and fun. Timothy Trueheart is our leader each week as we develop skills and make new friends. This group is working towards performances for those imps who are interested.

This is an adult improv group that will not shy away from “mature” subject matter so you must be at least 18 yrs. old unless accompanied by your very liberal parent.
