In Conjunction with Biketastic, the amazing women from the Syn-Fit bike racing team will be modeling for the next Dr. Sketchy’s DC. This is an open sketch for anyone who wants to participate and will take place during the show opening.

Treat the ladies right, and fill the “Love the Models” jar. Bring your artist materials and get in the Biketastic! spirit by celebrating bikes through live art.

Dr. Sketchy’s DC is the humble affiliate of the original Dr. Sketchy’s that originated in NYC by artist Molly Crabapple.

Verbal Assault has been sentenced to “Silentary Confinement”! What are we to do?!? Well, we are going to have a QUIET PARTY of course. Use movement,  body language, facial expressions, chalk, paper and the GIANT Whiteboard to express yourself and a party we will have. Once you cross the threshold of silence, not a sound you will make, but you will be heard. Most creatively communicative will be awarded an awesome prize.

Jasper Hyjinx hails from the sunny shores of California, where she was endowed with a cheeky smile and a sparkling wit. After finding herself stranded on the Eastern shore, she shimmied her way into the loving arms of the DC Gurly Show. Since 2008, she has been wowing crowds in a cloud of glitter. Known for her classic style and quirky humor, she can often be seen prancing across the Phase 1 stage and occasionally gracing the Palace of Wonders.

Never heard of Dr. Sketchy? Learn more about this twist on traditional life drawing sessions started in NYC  by Molly CrabApple.

Dr. Sketchy’s DC sessions are 3 hours and are $15. (Soundry members pay $10) Art monkeys should bring sketch pads, pens, pencils, markers, pastels, etc and be prepared for a sketchy good time. Models do a series of short and long poses with breaks every 20 minutes. Fun contests and prizes too!

Our models are hard working pencil candy, so don’t forget to visit the “Love the Models” tip jar.

Imagine all the people…dreaming of a Beatles Jam! Join us for our first monthly Beatles acoustic jam led by Tim Gregory on the ukulele.

* Play songs from The Beatles Complete Chord Songbook, a pretty common Beatles fake-book (you can even buy copies at Target for like $16.) We will also have song copies to hand out to those without a book.
* Play each song twice; once through to get the chords down, and once more with feeling.
* All skill levels and instruments welcome
* The emphasis is on fun, not accuracy.

Bella Donna & Ken Vegas!

Bella Donna, the beautiful queen of bohemian belly dancing, and Ken Vegas the incredibly sexy drag king will perform a titillating act prior to posing for our Art Monkeys.

Belladonna is the creator of ROMKA‘, a Washington D.C.-based belly dance troupe that teaches classes and performs across the United States. ROMKA‘ hosts the monthly DC Tribal Café and annual Belly Horror Show in Washington D.C.
Belladonna’s internationally acclaimed instructional sword DVD “Sword Stylization” was released in 2008 by Insidious Media Group www.insidiousgroup.com.

Belladonna has attended workshops with renowned dance professional Suhaila Salimpour and is currently level 1 certified in the Salimpour format. In addition, she has learned from and been influenced by belly dance professionals Rachel Brice, John Compton, Jill Parker, Leila Haddad, and Amy Sigil, among others.

ABOUT KEN VEGAS:

Ken’s performance is gender-fluid which means that he does not stay in one gender binary (male/female). Why choose one gender when their is so much beauty in both? Everytime Ken performs it feels like the first time since he tries to explore new ways of expression and sometimes does not know how the crowd will react. His main intention is to entertain the audience and show them a slice of what has inspired him throughout his travels all over the world.

AN ART SHOW & BENEFIT FOR BIKES FOR THE WORLD!

“Biketastic” is an art show for all mediums inspired by bicycles!  This show will feature art that represents the many nuances of bike culture; from bikes for commuting, racing and pleasure rides to those who ride them for economic, and environmental reasons.   The Soundry’s proximity to the W&OD Trail gives us a lot of “bike traffic”, and we see first hand what an important role biking plays in many people’s lives.  We also noticed that bike enthusiasts like bike related art!

This show is open to all mediums and will bring with it many bike-centered events from organized “rides” to film screenings, and a fashion show.  The opening of the arts show will benefit Bikes for the World!

Opening celebration and benefit will be Saturday, July 31st, 2010 from 7pm to 11pm.  There will be a silent auction, vendors, raffle, bike fashion show, and drinks.
