Improv Audition!

THE IMPROV IMPS: Playing for Keeps

Sat. April 6th 12-3pm

at The Pinch 3548 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20010

After four years, the Improv Imps are holding auditions for the first time! We are looking for 2-3 new troupe mates.

About Us:

Although we originated as a short-form troupe, we love long-form, sketch and experimentation! We are always looking to grow creatively, so this year we formed a sketch writing team, and are currently working on putting together a full show production for the Fall, incorporating various elements of improv, sketch and our own imaginations.

What are we looking for in a new troupe mate?
Chemistry of course is always important. We are looking for someone who will lend balance to the existing troupe–for example, we need a bit more estrogen in the group right now. We are also looking for someone who loves character work. And finally, we want a commitment to the troupe, to continuing improv education and our practice & performance schedule. Here are some deets.

**We Practice on Saturdays 11am-2pm in the Merrifield area of Fairfax, VA We expect a min. of 80% attendance
**No improv snobbery–we do it all and are open to trying lots of things, at least once.
**Be hungry to perform (we perform several times a month and actively pursue opportunities.)
**We produce most of our own shows and do very few ensemble shows.

What Will the Audition Be Like?
It will be like joy wrapped in rainbows and covered in Swiss chocolate. We will run the audition like a typical Imps practice, so expect warm ups, improv exercises, scene work, a Harold or other long form format and possibly some short form games. The goal is always to have fun and just play. If we sense some chemistry, we will invite you to our next practice and see if you feel it too:) If not, we’ve met some new improv friends!

We can’t wait to play with you! :):)

Cool beans. Here is how it works:

Casting & Check-In: 11:30am-12:30pm Match starts at 12:30.

There will be 3 competing categories

1. Rough & Sorta Ready Sketch Category
(Individual Competition):
Sketch writers with unrehearsed sketches that will be read from paper. Writers can bring their own sketch actors or get volunteers from the event. Sketch writers in this category can submit up to 2 different sketches. In this category, writers are competing as individuals and will be judged on the comedic quality of their sketch writing. **Sketches should be under 10 min.** After your sketch is performed, Murphy will give you live notes on your sketch.

2. Wild & Paper Free Sketch Category:
(Group Competition)
This category is for existing sketch groups/troupes with rehearsed sketches. No scripts allowed. Each sketch team submits two sketches and will be competing as a group. Groups will be judged on comedic quality, acting, richness of characters, sketch memorability and overall performance. **Sketches should be under 12 minutes** Live Comments from Murphy will be held until all sketches in this category are performed.

3. Best Comedic Acting: We want good acting & character work to be recognized too! On each ballot there will be a place to vote for your favorite sketch actor in each category.

That is a lot of info! Now all you have to do is sign up!
